I'm sure 100 other celeb gossip outlets have used that exact pun but too bad I'm using it now too.
So Lindsay Lohan surrendered to police this morning to be taken to Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Calif. to begin serving her 90-day sentence. The sentence comes from a parole violation stemming from a 2007 drunken driving and cocaine possession case. She'll be in solitary confinement in a 12-by-8 cell and has to complete three months of rehab immediately after finishing serving her sentence.
Now it came out pretty quickly (and I'm sure it's no surprise) that Lindsay wouldn't be serving the entire sentence due to overcrowding in the jail.
But did anyone expect an announcement to come out so quickly that La Lohan will only serve a mere 14 days?
How is Lindsay supposed to learn ANYthing if she's back into the bubble of Hollywood in only two weeks?
Look, she's got some issues. She's got some stuff she needs to work out. Her parents clearly aren't stepping in to teach her anything considering her mom is lashing out at the system and saying she doesn't deserve the punishment she got. Um cocaine possession and drunk driving? At 21? I'm pretty sure that yes, yes that does deserve some sort of punishment. She should have been put on lockdown three years ago when it really happened but when your parents are, well, Michael and Dina Lohan it's not surprising that she continued to live the life she was leading. Her dad's speaking out to every Perez Hilton wannabe about how Lindsay needs to be locked away (which is a surprisingly sane idea) while her mom is too busy fighting with Carvel ice cream over free cake.
I've said it about Heidi and Spencer needing it and I stand by this 100 percent. Lindsay needs a hug. Well she needs more than that. But it'd be a nice start and she needs it from her parents. They need to put their own issues aside and focus on the fact that they're 24-year-old daughter has some legitimate problems right now. Stop bickering back and forth and do something to help your kid.
What is speaking out about the system going to teach your child? What is calling the judge names and essentially throwing a tantrum about things going to show your kid? I don't know. Maybe because I'm not a mom yet I can't really say. Maybe I would do the same exact thing. Sure Dina Lohan should be angry about it. But somebody once and for all needs to teach LiLo some sense of responsibility. I'm sorry Dina's lost her shopping buddy but it'd be nice to hear her parents say something constructive and beneficial to helping her.
I'm glad they were with her in court today. That sounds like a good first step to showing that they stand behind her. She seems like she needs that.
I guess ultimately the point of all of this is to say that I hope she turns things around but I think it starts with her support system. So hopefully her parents can get it together and make it about her and not them. I won't hold my breath though.
